Spectrum of Spring Show Opening Tonight 6 - 9 PM

Red Roses and Apples - oil on canvas 22 x 28"

The big day is finally here. Months of hard work, long hours, and quite a few trips are wrapped up nicely tonight with a Champagne reception at Rich Timmons Gallery in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. I had the chance to sneak preview the show yesterday and it looks amazing! Rich and Julie have outdone themselves with this show. There are four artists participating: Christine Drewyer from Annapolis, Don Sahli from Evergreen, Colorado, Don McEvoy from Connecticut, and yours truly from Doylestown. I am excited and humbled to be in such talented company with this show.

The show runs for three weeks, so if you cannot make the champagne reception tonight there will also be a closing champagne reception. Tomorrow Don Sahli will be giving a demonstration starting at 11 AM at the gallery on Russian Impressionist painting techniques. I hope you can join us for one of these wonderful events!

Breezy Day - Pastel pencil on panel 7 x 5"

Breezy Day

It's my last day on "the island" and I now that I have high speed internet working (yay!) I can post some of my works from this trip. This is a new medium for me. I bought an assortment of pastel pencils and panels to bring on vaca. They are easy to transport and don't need a lot of other things (like gamsol, brushes, etc.) to go along with them. I also bought these sand-papery panels. What a great discovery! I am so happy with the product, and the results. I will plan on traveling this way in the future and doing studies and some finished pieces on vacation, then using the studies back at home in the studio.

This piece is a tiny little 7 x 5 inch pastel and is for sale on my website. I will be posting more tropical prints later in the month. Have a wonderful weekend! As relaxing as vacation's been I am happy to be back blogging and painting again.

The Lone Cypress

The Lone Cypress - oil on panel 8 x 10"

I was feeling a little homesick so I thought I'd paint a picture of a place I always loved to visit in Northern California. This is the Lone Cypress. I felt like I was back at home while painting it, so it was like a mini vacation.

Maine New Fallen Snow - oil on canvas 10 x 8"

Maine Fresh Fallen Snow - 10 x 8" oil on canvas

I took a class today with Kenn Backhaus at the HIghlands Gallery in Bernardsville, New Jersey. This is the last of three paintings that I did today. He is an amazing teacher and Cheryl at Highlands makes the class so enjoyable, and makes all of the artists feel so welcome. It's my third class there, and I have grown to love these mini-retreat painting classes. My next class will focus on trees and I'm very excited about it! Check back in a few weeks to see the results.

Day 20 of the 30 Day Challenge - 8 x 8" oil on canvas

You Say Tomato - 8 x 8" oil on canvas

Well, we are 2/3 of the way through the 30 Day Challenge. What an eye-opening experience. I always felt I put my art first but having a daily goal that has to be completed has made for a different studio experience. Better in some ways as I can dawdle on any part of a painting for days, even weeks. It also forced quick decisions on if something is working or not in a painting. Good skills for plein air painting, yet in a studio setting. Only 10 paintings left in this challenge!

Day 18 in the 30 in 30 Paintings a Day Challenge

Captiva Regatta - 6 x 6" oil on canvas

This was just a little fun with the palette knife. I love to see how certain colors work together.

Day 17 in the 30 Day Paint Challenge - New Hope Winter 8 x 10"

New Hope Winter - oil on panel 8 x 10"

I have painted this spot on a huge canvas (36 x 48") and now I have painted it teeny-tiny on an 8 x 10" panel. This is one of my favorite spots in Bucks County. It's actually the view from Lambertville, New Jersey looking over to New Hope, Pennsylvania. The river running between is the what we call the mighty, mighty Delaware. This is the perfect spot to paint because right behind me is one of the best wine bars in the country, and a wonderful place to unwind after painting!
